How the epidemic has made gaming furniture an essential item

Dorset, United Kingdom, 1 AprilSt. 2022 – March 2020 and the UK is told to stay home to save lives. We ate, slept, worked, socialized, and shopped from home.
Without going anywhere else (and spending anything else), shoppers flocked to the net to find a bargain that could improve their new living conditions. But what were they buying and why?
The online retail giant OnBuy is researching not only the kind of products people were buying during the epidemic, but also the most investing positions in their new setup. The results?
- Gaming chairs increase in popularity
- In 2020, the buyers in the South were the most buyers
- Buyers in the North have followed suit and invested heavily in 2021
- Corner computer desks have grown in popularity with gaming mouse mats
When we entered and left the lockdown in 2020 and 2021, the zoom quizzes were no longer cutting mustard (were they ever, really?) And people were starting to look for other ways to entertain themselves so that awkward interruptions or no words would strike a generation: ‘You’re silent.’
The popularity of gaming increased dramatically during the epidemic
Gaming chairs were the most popular investment for OnBuy buyers and accounted for more than 30% of total sales. In addition to gaming chairs, demand for corner computer desks and gaming mouse mats has also increased, suggesting an increase in the popularity of PC gaming. The PC gaming experience has become more immersive and engaging in recent years as manufacturers compete with consoles and smartphones in a highly competitive market.
The closure of the physical store and the stock shortage of popular gaming consoles have contributed to the popularity of PC gaming. Indeed, Ofcom reported a massive 70% increase in PC game hardware sales in 2020 as work and leisure spaces merged.
OnBuy gaming category manager, Liam Tickner, was not surprised by the results, especially the guidelines for working from home, an 88% increase in new start-ups compared to 2019 to 2020, and an increase in gaming as a social activity.
‘The combination of lockdown, redundancy and social isolation has radically changed behavior and, therefore, the online shopping landscape. Gaming chairs and other gaming-related furniture have grown in popularity throughout the peak of the 2020/2021 epidemic and we can see that this trend has been filtered from south to north in the measured time, the trend is more frequent.
‘Given that gaming chairs offer such high comfort and durability, I’d be surprised if they weren’t used for daytime work and nighttime gaming.’
But what were they playing to overcome the monotony of lockdown and isolation?
Perhaps most surprisingly, FIFA 21, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Grand Theft Auto 5 are at number 1.St.2ndAnd 3rd Respectively, including Animal Crossing: New Horizons ranks 4th through the market.M.
These games are Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (5)MThe Last of Us Part II (6)MNBA 2K20 (7)M), And Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Seas (8)M)
But who are the biggest players and what is your local area doing with gaming?
